As the E-3120 Endurance Wind Turbine fleet matures, it has become apparent that the original blade holders have a service life of around 10 years.

After this period of time, cracks form, radiating from the pivot block apertures.

This leads to blade holder failure with a high risk of blade throw.

If not spotted early, this can result in damage to other parts of the wind turbine due to imbalance, for example the hub, shaft, or even the bedplate.

New and Improved E-3120 Endurance Wind Power Flat Root Blade Holder

If your E-3120 Endurance Wind Power (EWP) flat root blade holder is approaching end-of-life, DC21 can now replace old and fatigued blade holders with a new one designed for superior performance, stability, and durability.

Designed and engineered by Serenity Wind, the new holder has many improvements, including lined bores. This eliminates unsightly brown stains on Endurance turbine blades caused by corrosion in the bore of the holder.

Main design benefits of the New E-3120 Blade Holder:

• The main tube is constructed from thicker tubing for added strength and improved reliability.
• The Nyloil block mounting hole is now oval instead of square for reduced stress concentration.
• The Nyloil block is also attached with M12 bolts instead of M8/M10 bolts for a more secure hold.
• Gently curved surfaces replace sharp edges in the structure, alleviating stress concentrations in sharp corners. The smooth transitions created from these swept radii improve load transfer with lower fatigue stresses. The likelihood of fatigue-related failure is, therefore, significantly reduced.
• Aluminium bronze-lined tube minimises corrosion and enhances wear life of the holder and hub arm sleeves.
• Each blade holder features a thermal zinc spray coating, phosphate primer, 2-part epoxy paint, and RAL9015 ‘Traffic White’ for long-lasting corrosion protection.
• A similar weight to the original has been achieved through design efficiency and machining away material from low-stress areas.

FEA studies (Finite Element Analysis) predict that a 4-fold reduction in peak stress improves overall durability.
